Because we live in an instant-gratification society, it’s not surprising that many people are looking to get fast results regarding their health without having to put in much effort.

Anything Worth Having Takes Work

Just as you can’t expect one trip to the gym to help you get fit and toned, it’s unrealistic to think that one adjustment will fix your neck pain. It takes more than two days to get the results you want. It’s also tempting to believe that adopting a fad diet for the short term will yield long-term weight loss results. Instead, a far better way to shed pounds and keep them off is to make a healthy sensible diet part of your lifestyle.

Enlist an Accountability Partner

Getting on the path to better health is easier when someone is walking along it with you. Whether you want to walk 30 minutes a day or eat a primarily plant-based diet, you will likely have better success if your spouse or friend joins you on your journey.

Take Small Steps

While it’s good to be ambitious and have goals, consider establishing manageable ones. Here are some healthy lifestyle goals to incorporate this New Year:

  • Aim to get more sleep by turning in a little earlier each night until you reach your optimal bedtime.
  • Add an extra serving of vegetables to your dinner plate until you reach your suggested daily intake of about eight veggie servings a day.
  • Hydrate more each day. We get that it’s not always easy to ensure that you drink enough water a day. Keep a glass of water next to you throughout the day as a reminder to stay hydrated.
  • Sneak fitness in daily. You don’t have to belong to a gym to work out. Go for a brisk walk during your lunch break. Conduct a meeting while you’re standing. Engage in simple exercises such as push-ups or planks during TV commercials.
